Lu Dawn Kinnunen

Lu Dawn Kinnunen, 94, of Monroeville, formerly of Baden, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Concordia of Monroeville.

Born on June 24, 1929, in the town of Vermont, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Elizabeth Jenni Tollefson.

Lu Dawn had an impressive career that spanned various positions. She served as a tour guide, educator and volunteer at Old Economy Village, where she shared her extensive knowledge of textiles and love for history with visitors from all walks of life. Additionally, she generously volunteered her time at Contact Beaver Valley, making an impact on the lives of those in need.

She was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Baden along with her late husband, Donald.  She was a very active member of the congregation, serving as a member of the Lutheran Church Women and Sunday School teacher. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald A. Kinnunen; two brothers, Richard Tollefson and Russell Tollefson; and sister-in-law, Annatta Tollefson.

Family was at the center of Lu Dawn's life. She is survived by her son, Martin M. Kinnunen, and his wife, Dorinne; daughter, Ann E. Kinnunen; grandchildren, Angela E. Kinnunen and Emily M. Lopez, and her husband, Eric; and sister-in-law, Marly Tollefson.

Lu Dawn will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and compassion, reminding us all to embrace life's moments and find joy in the simplest of things.

Friends will be received Friday from 6-9 PM in the CORLESS-MATTER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, LLC, 1133 Church Street, Ambridge. Family and friends will also be received Saturday from 10:30 AM until the time of service at 11:30 AM at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 399 State Street, Baden.

Interment will be private at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.

Lu Dawn Kinnunen's presence in our lives will forever be cherished. Her love and light will continue to guide us as we navigate life's journey without her physical presence. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
